ABOUT PSYFIG AND MY APPROACH TO COACHING

Personal online support towards greater resilience and better mental wellbeing.

ABOUT PSYFIG

PsyFig is my practice for online support. I work with people who feel stuck in some area of their lives, whether because of stress, anxiety, low mood, loss, difficulties with studying or recurring patterns that take up a great deal of energy.

An important principle in my work is that not everything in life should be approached in the same way. Some things call for change. Others cannot simply be solved and may instead require acceptance. People often become exhausted when that distinction is unclear: they keep fighting what they cannot control, or continue carrying something for far too long when change is actually possible.

That is why we repeatedly return to three questions during coaching:

1. What do I need to learn to accept?
2. What can I change?
3. How do I recognise the difference?

My role is to look at things with you, ask further questions and reflect honestly on what I see and hear. Sometimes this concerns something you may be able to do differently. At other times, it concerns something you have been trying to carry on your own for a long time.

ABOUT ME

I am Vincent Figee. I graduated from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I now work as a psychosocial coach, with a particular focus on mental wellbeing.

What drives me is the belief that every person is unique and therefore deserves an individual approach. At PsyFig, you will not be placed into a standard programme. Instead, we develop an approach that fits your story, needs and preferences.

Healthcare often relies on structured protocols and rules. These can be valuable, but they do not always leave enough room for the person behind the story. At PsyFig, that person is precisely where the focus lies. I listen, think things through with you and ask the questions that matter, so that together we can get to the heart of what is going on.

THE PSYFIG APPROACH

I work from the idea that some things in life call for change, while others first require acceptance. Not everything that is difficult can simply be solved. But neither does everything have to be endured.

An important part of coaching is therefore learning to recognise the difference together: what calls for a different way of relating to the situation, and where is concrete change actually possible? When that distinction remains unclear, we can spend a great deal of energy fighting something over which we have little control, while continuing to live with situations where change is in fact possible.

At PsyFig, we explore that distinction together, so that your energy can be directed more effectively towards what genuinely helps.

All sessions take place online.

Getting acquainted
We can begin with a free, no-obligation 20-minute introductory conversation. During this conversation, we explore your situation, your expectations and what you would like support with, as well as whether there is a good fit between us.

A personal process
If we decide to continue working together, we look at where you currently feel most stuck. We explore what you have already been trying, what those efforts are achieving and where they may instead be costing you energy.

From there, we choose a direction that feels realistic. Sometimes this means practising different behaviour in a very practical way. Sometimes it means learning to relate differently to thoughts, feelings or situations that cannot simply be made to disappear.

The process remains personal throughout: along the way, we continually assess what helps, what does not, and what fits you.

The sessions
During the sessions, we slow things down enough to understand properly what is happening, while also remaining practical. We look at concrete situations from your life: what creates tension, where do you get stuck, what do you do in that moment, and does that response still help you in the longer term?

From there, we explore different ways of responding. Sometimes this means practising new behaviour. Sometimes it means learning to make room for thoughts or feelings that do not immediately disappear. And sometimes it means taking an honest look at something you have been trying to carry alone for far too long.

Ending the process
Coaching does not need to continue for longer than necessary. When you feel able to move forward again, we discuss what you are taking away from the process and how you can continue applying it in everyday life.

If you feel at a later point that another conversation would be useful, you can always book a new session.
